Content: The story of Daniel and Daniela begins almost 7 years ago, although some may say the stars have been trying to align way before that. But as fate would have it, it was not until April 2009 when the Ds first met. Both were invited to a happy hour mixer at Howl at The Moon, Universal CityWalk by a good mutual friend who Daniel went to high school with and Daniela has known since she was nine years old. Daniela noticed Daniel right away (who doesn’t?) and he looked familiar having remembered previous encounters with this gentle giant at random high school parties and other not so vivid gatherings but they had never been introduced until this moment. When Daniela noticed that Daniel arrived with his roommate (who she grew up with) she seized the opportunity to strike up the conversation with the handsome pair. The vibes were great and the three of us conversed over drinks outside for most of the “happy hour” until Daniela had to leave and drive back to the west side of town—there was no exchanging of numbers or plans to meet in the future, only the high of encountering such a mesmerizing human being. One month later, Daniela received an email from her good girlfriend who organized the happy hour on that unforgettable night. The email was a forwarded message from Daniel that read something along the lines of: “Your friend, Daniela, is kinda cute. Hook it up”. Daniela was pleasantly surprised to see this considering the amount of time that had passed since their magical encounter and with her friend’s blessing (I believe her exact words were “You better get on that!”) a second meeting was arranged. After that night, we both became even further intrigued with one another—having learned that a lot of our friend groups overlapped—and wanted to continue seeing each other, although none of us had the courage to ask for a proper date so we did what young lovers do best…intentionally attend the same social events. Our third meeting was arranged at a mutual friend’s birthday party where initially Daniel was going to opt out of for a bonding fishing trip with his brother. At the last minute, Daniela learned that Daniel had canceled his weekend getaway and was planning to attend the celebration which gave her all kinds of butterflies and when she arrived at the party, she couldn’t help but share with some of her closest friends her infatuation with Danny Calin. As soon as Daniel arrived he went straight for the food (shocker) and raved about his best friend, the chef, who was manhandling the barbeque; it was in this moment where Daniela learned about Daniel’s passion for food. After a few drinks, like in middle school, people around us started buzzing about our obvious liking for one another (I mean, we sat in the corner for a couple hours chatting as if we were the only ones there). A little embarrassed by all the attention, we deflected and decided to head in the pool. While waiting for the bathroom to change in the house, Daniela felt the warm presence of a large male behind her. No one was in sight, the hallway was dark and when she turned around, Daniel went in for the first kiss, and the rest (as they say) is history.
